How to Remain a Spiritual Person in a Hectic World

To practice one’s spirituality, you sometimes need to make time for it.

There’s really no excuse. Meditations in the park or just solemnly staring into the sky or in the ocean while communing with the spiritual world still means you need to adjust your time. There will be times, however, that you don’t have the schedule to do so. If there’s one thing that this recent health and economic crisis have taught us, it’s that we all need the skill to plan our daily activities.

Practicing your spirituality can be tough. The current health and economic situation are also not helping. There are bills to pay and responsibilities to do, both at work and at home. It’d be good if you can meditate your monthly bills away, right? However, that is always never the case. You have to work and work always takes most of your day away.

So how does one remain spiritual during a very hectic moment of one’s life? I believe that the secret to remaining spiritual is through choosing what is important to you or not. Spirituality often gives you the opportunity to explore. Exploring one own’s faith or spiritual belief is a great way of communing with the divine or the unknown. However, this same exploration will draw you away from the real-life chores and responsibilities that are waiting for you to work on. Explore too much and you’ll find yourself swamped with work and chores, which will all lead to stress and frustration.

So one piece of advice to remaining spiritual is to limit your time to explore. An hour or two is good enough. Always keep in mind that being spiritual at all times will not give you any favors during this time of economic need. You also need to work. Balance is the key here.

Apart from limiting your activity to explore, you also need to keep in mind what is important for you. There is a time for work, but there is also a time for guidance and prayer. While you are limiting your time to explore and communicate with the unknown, make sure that you are doing so diligently and faithfully. If you commit to an hour of prayer and meditation, then make sure to do so. While dwelling on spirituality may seem like a waste of time to some people, for you who believe in the power of spirituality, it gives you strength, wisdom, and mental fortitude to keep on going with your daily life, even if things are not okay.

Let your belief in the higher power become your strength, not your weakness. It should guide you to become a better person during this period of uncertainty. – Gale Tobin
